A brilliant debut mystery in a classic vein: Detective Cormoran Strike investigates a supermodel’s suicide.

16160797After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Strike is down to one client, and creditors are calling. He has also just broken up with his longtime girlfriend and is living in his office.

Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: His sister, thelegendary supermodel Lula Landry, known to her friends as the Cuckoo, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

You may think you know detectives, but you’ve never met one quite like Strike. You may think you know about the wealthy and famous, but you’ve never seen them under an investigation like this.

Introducing Cormoran Strike, this is the acclaimed first crime novel by J.K. Rowling, writing under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.” –– Goodreads

Review – Cormoran Strike!!! Gasp, dare I say it?! Cormoran is the Modern Day Hercule Poirot and Robert Galbraith aka J.K. Rowling is the modern day Agatha Christie. So needless to say if you were a fan of Agatha Christie, this is one that you will utterly enjoy.

So, I haven’t read any of the Harry Porter books and haven’t watched even the movie (I’m kinda thinking that maybe I should!!) but this is the second J.K. Rowling book that I have read and I must say – I’m a fan!! Easy to read, uncomplicated prose. Halfway through this book, it really turned into a page-turner and towards the end, I simply stayed up all night, I just had to find out who did it!!

I see a series in the future and I’m incredibly hopeful! When Cormoran Strike comes calling again, I’m definitely without doubt going to get it!

If you absolutely loved this and “The Casual Vacancy,” then you HAVE to read the Harry Potter series…SO much better.
This book was good overall, but MUCH too slow and descriptive. And I have to admit that I found “The Casual Vacancy” torturous at best.
