A Ship for the LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean!!!

We had such a lot of fun doing this! It’s a simple craft which you can do by recycling a few of the things that you can find around the house. It takes a couple of hours tops and after that, loads of fun time playing. We had our band of pirates from the Lego Pirates of the Caribbean who fitted in perfectly!

What Junior and I used:

  • 2 empty egg cartons
  • popsicle sticks
  • poster colours
  • paint brush
  • black paper (I had ran out of paper, so just used white paper and coloured it in)
  • 3 wooden skewers
  • gloopy glue
  • bit of wool
  • newspapers

How Junior and I went about it:

  1. Start of by laying newspapers over the surface where you will be working at.
  2. Use the bottom half of the egg carton, turn it over and colour it with the desired colour. We used poster colour for this, but I ran out of all poster colour and the rest of the ship had to do with crayons!!! (I can’t believe I forgot to restock!!)OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
  3. Once the egg carton was dry we pasted the popisicle sticks as shown in the picture to form the deck.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
  4. Then we usd the top part of the egg carton, cut out two parts as illustrated and glue it on. This is to be the cabin of the ship and will be where the captain and the crew have their quarters.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
  5. For the prow of the ship, cut two strips of the egg carton and a triangle shape piece off the egg carton. Fix them together so that they form the prow as shown in the picture. You also need to insert a popsicle stick as shown in the picture. Once dried, we fixed it onto the main ship.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
  6. Now on to the sail – either using white paper or a black paper, punch two holes at the top and the bottom – keep this aside till we make the crows nest and the mast.
  7. Use two popsicle sticks and fix one end to the other with gloopy glue.
  8. Use another popsicle stick and form a cross and secure this by winding string around it as shown in the picture.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
  9. Use one shell from the egg carton and paint it, this will be used as the crows nest. Once it is dry secure this onto the mast as shown in the picture.
  10. Secure the sail by running the holes through the popsicle sticks and secure it into the deck. (You will find gaps in the deck, and this is where you need to secure the mast into)
  11. Now the pirates need to climb onto the crows nest and to do that they need a ladder, using the skewers, craft a ladder as shown in the picture above . Use gloopy glue and the skewers.
  12. Now to add some detail, use the wool and draw two strings to the ends of the mast from the prow!!!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And there you have it!! A pirate ship made from recycled egg cartoons and other supplies from the kitchen!!! It’s simple yet very comprehensive and total fun!

You don’t have to have all the elements I have for it to be fun, you can tweak it and totally make it you own!! If you do, please do share your pics by mailing it to info@mumsibles.com
