Vesak Day Activities – Paper Lotus

24 May

This is yet another project that younger kids can enjoy. Not limited to younger ones though! Lot’s of fun for older kids too and they are just simply beautiful!! I love these!

For instructions, read on!

What Junior & I Used:

  • Coloured paper – we used purple, pink, white and green (which are the different colours of Lotus flowers)
  • Craft scissors
  • Scissors
  • Glue Stick

How we went about it:

  1. Use the green coloured paper and a craft scissor, cut out a circle. This green paper would be the leaf on which we will be pasting the lotus flower. Using the craft scissor will help you get a crisscrossed effect which looks pretty neat.
  2. Cut a small slit on the green paper as shown in the picture.
  3. Now using the coloured paper for the flower and a normal scissor, cut out the shape of petals. You would need eight petals in total.
  4. On each of the petal, make a slit at the bottom of the leaf.
  5. Overlap the flaps of the petal at the slit you made so that it would take the shape in the picture below.20130523_145456
  6. Paste each of the petals on the leaf, four in one layer and four in the inner layer.
  7. There you have it! A beautiful beautiful lotus flower that looks really sophisticated, but easy enough for little hands to do!
